First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion is the second Sacrament of initiation continuing the journey begun in baptism.

As Catholics, we believe that Christ is fully present in the host and receiving the Eucharist for the first time is therefore a deeply profound and faithful moment and requires careful preparation. The Cathedral offers a First Holy Communion course for children in the Cathedral parish aged between 7 and 10 years (Year 3).

The course, which starts in the autumn and concludes in the early summer, takes into account school holidays. Details of how to apply are announced at Masses and are available in the Cathedral Newsletter in early summer.

The greatest of the Sacraments is, of course, the Eucharist, ‘the source and summit of the Christian life’.
