Ordination

The Seventh Sacrament is Ordination.

The Seventh Sacrament is Ordination. The Westminster Cathedral Chaplains may come from different countries and have trained in different seminaries, but Ordination binds them to Christ and to one another. Ordinations to the priesthood in the Cathedral are normally associated with the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul and the Cathedral Solemnity of the martyr priest St John Southworth, whose major relics are in the Chapel of St George and the English Martyrs.

These relics are brought out into the centre of the Cathedral nave for the occasion and provide a powerful vision for a life surrendered to Christ in the priesthood. St John Southworth, a priest who ministered to the poor of Westminster, is an inspiration to all our priests.

If you think God is calling you to service in the Church, please feel free to speak to a chaplain who will be able to direct you.

‘Tend the flock of God that is in your charge…’
