Anointing of the Sick

Extreme Unction, or ‘Anointing’, is usually given to those at the point of death, however, Anointing of the Sick is indeed a healing Sacrament, one that can be given at any time to strengthen those tried by illness.

This Sacrament will often be received in hospital, but the Chaplains will give it to anyone in need, in the Cathedral, or during a home visit. The Anointing is often requested for someone going into hospital for planned treatment or surgery.

Please note:

Data Protection Regulations mean that you will not receive a visit from a Catholic hospital chaplain unless you specifically request it. Please make your faith identity known when you are admitted to hospital, and ask for the Catholic chaplaincy to be advised of your presence.
