Support in our hour of need

Westminster Cathedral is deeply grateful to The Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage without whose support we would not have been able to develop this website. Their support was offered at a time when the Cathedral was suffering some of its lowest attendances following the first lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  We also thank the Society of Friends of Westminster Cathedral for their additional support of this project.

About Here For Culture

Here for Culture is a movement that unites the public, government and cultural organisations in support of our fantastic cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, galleries and heritage. The Culture Fund for Heritage works in partnership with Historic England, the public body that looks after England’s historic environment and champions historic places in order to help people understand, value and care for them.

Whether on the global stage or quietly in our own lives, culture inspires, uplifts, comforts and entertains us. In these challenging times, it’s our turn to continue to provide a lifeline and show our support. Everybody should have the opportunity to access a wide-range of high-quality cultural experiences, which is why it is so important that we support arts and cultural venues, cinemas and heritage sites in local communities to survive and thrive.

About the Society of Friends of Westminster Cathedral

Visit the Cathedral today and you will see evidence of the Friends in action. We provided the dramatic glass doors at the main entrance and funded the restoration of the Cathedral Tower and Viewing Gallery, whilst the mosaics of the Chapels of St George and the English Martyrs and the Vaughan Chantry were paid for by the Friends. In 2020 we raised more than £50,000 for Cathedral Communications, helping to support the live stream of Masses. Westminster Cathedral receives no regular public funding, and the Friends play a vital role in helping to support the fabric and function of this beautiful place.
