Ordination

Deacons, Priests, and Bishops, all share in one Sacrament, Holy Orders, but are entrusted with different degrees of ministry in Christ.

The Westminster Cathedral Chaplains may come from different countries and have trained in different seminaries, but Ordination binds each of them to Christ, and to one another. Ordinations to the priesthood in the Cathedral are normally associated with the great Solemnity of the Peter and Paul, and the Cathedral Solemnity of St John Southworth, martyr and priest, whose major relics are in the Chapel of St George and the English Martyrs.

These relics are brought out into the centre of the Cathedral nave for the occasion and provide a powerful vision for a life surrendered to Christ in the priesthood. St John Southworth, a priest who ministered to the poor of Westminster, is an inspiration to all our priests.

If you think God is calling you to service in the Church, please feel free to speak to a Chaplain who will be able to direct you.
