St John Passion – J.S. Bach
Tuesday 18th March 2025, 7.30pm
As part of its Lenten devotions, Westminster Cathedral Choir performs Johann Sebastian Bach’s vivid and visceral retelling of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St John, sung in German.
James Gilchrist returns to Westminster Cathedral as the Evangelist. Recognised as ‘the finest Evangelist of his generation’, James is one of the UK’s leading tenors – a prolific and celebrated recitalist and concert soloist, his extensive repertoire embraces works spanning many centuries.
Fast making a name for himself as one of today’s most promising young singers, William Thomas also returns to the Cathedral to sing Christus. Highlights in his 2024/25 season include his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich as Colline (La bohème); Sparafucile (Rigoletto) in a return to the English National Opera and his Carnegie Hall debut in Bach’s Johannes-Passion with the Orchestra of St Luke’s/Bernard Labadie.
These outstanding soloists and our world-famous choir are accompanied by a period orchestra, and directed by Master of Music, Simon Johnson.
Tickets (£45/35/20) for this seasonal performance in aid of Westminster Cathedral are available now from Ticketmaster.
