As part of its Lenten devotions, Westminster Cathedral Choir performs Johann Sebastian Bach’s vivid and visceral retelling of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St John.

James Gilchrist returns to Westminster Cathedral as the Evangelist. Recognised as ‘the finest Evangelist of his generation’, James is one of the UK’s leading tenors – a prolific and celebrated recitalist and concert soloist, his extensive repertoire embraces works spanning many centuries.

The part of Christus will be sung by Roderick Williams, one of the most sought after baritones of his generation. Roderick was awarded an OBE in June 2017 and was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Opera in both the 2018 Olivier Awards for his performance in the title role of the Royal Opera House production of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and in 2019 for his role in ENO’s production of Britten’s War Requiem.

These outstanding soloists and our world-famous choir are accompanied by a period orchestra, and directed by Master of Music, Simon Johnson.

Tickets (£45/35/25/15) for this seasonal performance in aid of Westminster Cathedral are available from Ticketmaster.
